Okay! You’ve figured out your career path, you’ve earned your college degree at Summit Career College and you’ve got an exciting interview lined up. Now what?
Beyond a glowing resume, employers rely on face-to-face interviewswith potential employeesto determine whom they’re going to hire. These meetings can be stressful but don’t let your nerves get the best of you.
Battle your interview anxiety by preparing yourself ahead of time:
- Know what you’re applying for. (This one seems obvious, but you’d be surprised.)Familiarize yourself with the company, what the position will entail and, if possible, get some background information on the interviewer.
- Interview yourself first. Make a list of common interview questions and practice your answers ahead of time alone or with a friend.
- Know where you’re going. If you’re not familiar with the address, map out your route ahead of time and try to arrive 10-15 minutes early. Don’t sprint in at the last possible second.
- Dress for the occasion. Sure, not every job calls for a business suit, but whether you’re applying for a legal office assistant or licensed vocational nurse, you should look your best.
- Know your value. Be prepared to list your skills, talents, interests, strengths and weaknesses. Let your interviewer know what an asset you’ll be to their company.

Thinking about advancing your education to earn a college degree, but still aren’t sure whether it’s the right path for you? We’d like to help you make your decision by identifying a few of the many benefits to earning a higher education that go far beyond just the potential for a higher salary, although that’s pretty rewarding in itself.
In addition to creating better opportunities for you to earn higher pay, you’ll also increase your chances of loving your job. Attaining a college degree opens up a wider range of employment possibilities for your future. Since you get to pick your own course of study, you can choose an area that fits your personality and interests. Once you earn your degree, you’ll have a leg up on getting a job in a field that you know inspires and challenges you. You’ll also be interested to know that in general, jobs that require a college degree provide more job stability than those that only require a high school diploma or less.
Studies have shown that college educations also benefit people health-wise in that many of them experience less stress than non-degree holders, and they tend to make healthier lifestyle choices like eating better or not smoking. College grads also have a greater likelihood of gaining employer-provided health care benefits than folks without a college degree, which means better medical care. Because many workplace health care plans allow you to place your spouse and your children on your policy, your family could be better off as well.
Still not sure whether a college education is right for you? Or, maybe you’ve decided that pursuing a higher education is the way to go, but you’re not sure what steps to take next?
